Tell something about yourself?
My name is Maydel Fernandez Alonso and I come from Havana, Cuba. I have a BSc in Psychology from the University of Havana (2015), and until recently, I worked as a Junior Researcher at the Cuban Center for Neurosciences. My research background is in cognitive neuroscience, and I have worked on subjects such as neurodevelopment and numerical cognition. During my senior year, I had the opportunity of doing a research internship at Cornell University, where I worked on a project studying depth perception in virtual reality using the Oculus Rift DK2.
Why did you apply to ETN-FPI project?
I decided to apply because the project with Prof. Jenny Read and Prof. Martin Banks at Newcastle University was a perfect fit to my research interests within the field of vision science and to my previous experience. In addition, being part of the ETN offers unique opportunities of training and collaboration in a truly interdisciplinary environment.
What kind of expectations do you have for your research project and network training?
I believe that the project examining metric depth perception with light field displays is a great opportunity to contribute to the development of new technologies and to further our knowledge of depth perception.I am confident that the training offered by the network will help me develop new valuable skills, and I hope that by achieving the goals of my research project, I will be able to contribute to the network and to field of vision science.
